Most of our students are interested in pursuing residential decorating as a career, and have the goal of opening their own business. At Vanguard School of Interior Design we prepare our students for the competitive residential design industry by fostering their individual talents and skill sets towards a specific niche. For example, one student might be great at space planning and would enjoy furnishing new homes for young families, while another is a whiz at fabric and color schemes and would like to concentrate on designing custom window treatments and bedding.

Because class size is kept small (10-12 students per class), we can personally guide the students in developing strong business ideas that utilize the aspects of design they are most passionate about. It is this individualized attention that will ensure a greater chance of success for our graduates. Those who do not wish to start their own business after graduating enter the design industry by working for another residential designer or in a home furnishings retail or wholesale environment.

Regardless of the path our students take, they are well prepared for their journey within one year. Although this claim sounds hard to believe, it’s true! We have taken all of the ‘fluff’ and ‘busy work’ out of a 4-year interior design curriculum and have condensed the information into only 50 weekly sessions!

If our students dedicate themselves to attending all of the classes and completing the assigned homework projects, they will have the skills they need to work on real projects professionally in less than one year.

By the end of both the Beginner and Advanced classes of our Residential Interiors Certificate Program, our students’ projects, vocabulary and presentation skills are as professional as some seasoned interior designers who have been practicing for years.

We teach a simple to understand design process that focuses on both the functional and emotional needs of the client.  If our method is followed as we instruct it, the result is a successful design project every time!
